Liability waiver and assumption of risk

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, grappling and MMA are full-contact combat sports. Please read this waiver carefully before creating your account — accepting it is required to train at Annecy JJB.

1. Nature of the activity and risks

Training involves close physical contact, throws and takedowns, joint locks, chokes and ground fighting, with partners of different sizes and experience levels. Known risks include bruises, cuts, sprains, dislocations, fractures, joint, neck and spine injuries, concussion, transmissible skin conditions, and — although rare — serious permanent injury or death.

2. Voluntary assumption of risk

I take part freely and voluntarily, with full knowledge of these risks, and I accept them for myself. No one has represented to me that the activity is risk-free.

3. Physical condition and medical fitness

I declare that I am in good health and know of no medical condition that makes practising a combat sport inadvisable. I will provide any medical certificate required by law or by the club's insurance, and I will inform the instructors without delay of any injury, illness, medication, pregnancy or condition that could affect my safety or that of my training partners.

4. Rules and conduct

I will follow the instructors' directions and the club rules at all times: train within my level, tap early and release immediately when a partner taps, use no technique that has not been taught or supervised, keep my nails short, my kit clean, and stay off the mat with an open wound or a contagious skin condition. I will treat every training partner with respect. The club may suspend access for anyone who endangers others.

5. Emergency medical care

If I am injured and unable to give instructions, I authorise the club's staff to administer first aid and to call the emergency services, and I accept responsibility for the resulting medical costs.

6. Insurance

I am responsible for holding valid personal accident and civil liability cover (federation licence or personal policy) for the duration of my membership. The club does not insure personal belongings left on the premises.

7. Release of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, I release Annecy JJB, its instructors, staff, volunteers and members from any claim for loss or injury arising from the ordinary risks of the activity described above. Nothing in this waiver limits liability for gross negligence, wilful misconduct, or any liability that may not lawfully be excluded.

8. Minors

If the member is under 18, this waiver is read and accepted by the parent or legal guardian, who also authorises participation and emergency medical care. The club may additionally require a signed paper copy.

9. Acknowledgement

I confirm that I have read and understood this waiver, that I accept it freely, and that my acceptance is recorded electronically with the date and version below.

This document does not replace the club's insurance obligations under French law.
